‘Serving’ the seniors on Mandela Day The Alpha Response Officers serve the ladies at the Mandela Day event Krishnee Naidoo More than 20 elderly women from Malukazi and surrounding areas in Isipingo, enjoyed tea and delectable treats when they were surprised and were waited on by the tough and sturdy response officers from local security company, Alpha Alarms, as part of the company’s 67 minutes Mandela Day tradition. Known as the Golden Eagles Seniors Club, the dynamic ladies gathered at the humble Malukazi Community Centre for the leatime treat and they were super excited to have their hot beverages and snacks poured out and served by the community crimefighters whilst the Alpha ladies provided backup support. . The energetic seniors group regaled the Alpha Team with songs and a lively dance and echoed their thanks for the delightful surprise. Local community leader, Pastor Luke Munien, who heads the community centre, was present and spoke to the Alpha learn of the challenges faced by the aged women. Pst Munien is a constant source of inspiration and support to them together with his amped team. The centre serves as a creche, seniors meeting place, prayer and counselling hub and library for the impoverished Malukazi residents. Boxer Superstores Isipingo also generously sponsored cooldrinks as an added treat for the ladies. Alpha Alarms spokesman, Seshin Govender, said, “It was an honour and a privilege to take time out of our busy schedules and spend time with the gracious ladies of Malukazi. Seniors in age but certainly sprightly, the women folk made our day with their thanks and smiles and the song and dance was a bonus for us. We are proud that we could honour these seniors in a manner that Tata Madiba would be proud of.
