In less than a month since opening, entries for South Africa’s most social 5km run have officially SOLD OUT, with the Boxer Super Run Durban reaching its 5000-runner capacity well ahead of event day on Sunday, 12 October 2025.

“The phenomenal response to the Boxer Super Run once again highlights the appeal of the 5km distance,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “Our goal is to create an atmosphere that is fun, inclusive, and inspiring, while also showcasing why the 5km format is becoming such an important part of the road running landscape. The Boxer Super Run is more than a race; it’s a celebration of movement and community in the heart of Durban.”

“We are incredibly proud that the Boxer Super Run Durban has reached capacity so quickly in 2025,” says Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Department: Marketing at Boxer Superstores. “We want to thank every runner who has entered for their support - it’s your enthusiasm that makes this event so special. For Boxer Superstores, the Boxer Super Run Durban holds extra significance, as KwaZulu-Natal is where the brand’s journey began 48 years ago. We’re thrilled at the prospect of seeing so many runners, both professional and social, taking on the 5km race and making this a memorable celebration of running and community.”

PRIZE PURSE: The Boxer Super Run Durban boasts an impressive R147 200 prize purse in 2025. This prize purse will be shared across both the Elite Race and the Open Wave. In the Elite Race, the top eight men and women will earn prize money, with the winners each claiming a well-deserved R20 000. In the Open Wave, the top three men and women in the Junior, Open, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, and 70+ categories will also be recognised and rewarded for their performances.

In 2024 Boxer Athletics Club’s top runners, Precious Mashele and Karabo More, secured gold in the elite men’s and women’s races respectively with Mashele once again becoming the fastest South African (at that time) to complete a 5km run on home soil with a lightning-fast time of 13:39. More completed the 5km in a deserving time of 16:16.

“Last year, I won the Boxer Super Run in Durban on my birthday, which was very special for me,” says Mashele. “The R20 000 prize was the most I had ever won for a 5km race, which is what sets this event apart from other 5km races. That amount of prize money is not something you see every day - it’s even more than what some 10km races offer. Because of the strong prize incentives, the field at the Boxer Super Run is usually very competitive, attracting both 5km and 10km road runners, as well as 1500m and 5000m track athletes, all vying for the cash. That tough competition pushed me to run a fast time of 13:39 in Durban. Winning the race meant a lot to me personally, as I used the prize money to continue building my house in Limpopo. I was also proud to win for my club, Boxer, who have supported me for many years.”
