South Africa’s favourite Discount Supermarket recently celebrated the successful completion of the 2026 edition of the Boxer Youth Leadership Programme (BYLP), held at Sugar Bay Camp in Northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Now in its 24th year, the programme continues to grow in impact, bringing together 50 exceptional learners from across South Africa and Eswatini for a fully sponsored, week-long leadership experience. Selected through a competitive video entry process, many participants travelled by bus and air (some for the first time), to attend the programme.

Over five dynamic days, learners were immersed in a carefully designed blend of physical, mental, and leadership-building activities. From rock climbing, BMX riding, swimming, roller skating and paintball, to structured debates and team challenges, participants were encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, build resilience, and collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds.

A key highlight of the programme was the opportunity for learners to engage directly with Boxer leadership, department heads, and specialists. These sessions provided valuable insight into the retail industry and the many career pathways available, while reinforcing the importance of purpose-driven work and community impact.

The programme culminated in a formal graduation ceremony, celebrating the achievements and personal growth of each participant.

Speaking on the importance of the initiative, Ntombi Dludla, Group Executive for Sustainability and Stakeholder Engagement, said: “At Boxer, we believe that investing in young people is investing in the future of our communities and our country. The Youth Leadership Programme is about unlocking potential, building confidence, and equipping tomorrow’s leaders with the tools they need to make a meaningful impact.”

With all programme costs—including travel, accommodation, meals, and uniforms—covered by Boxer, the initiative reflects the company’s deep commitment to youth empowerment and community development.

As the BYLP Class of 2026 returns home inspired and empowered, Boxer Superstores remains committed to expanding the reach and impact of the BYLP for years to come.
