Returning to competitive racing in mid-2025 after the birth of her first child, Boxer Athletics Club elite runner Kyla Jacobs is eagerly embracing one challenge after another. Her next goal is to claim gold at her Boxer Super Run Durban debut on Sunday, 12 October 2025.

Affectionately known as South Africa’s most social 5km run, the Boxer Super Run holds strong appeal for Jacobs, as the 5km is one of her favourite distances.

“The Boxer Super Run is such a great initiative to grow the 5km road racing distance,” says Jacobs. “Now that it’s a World Road Running official event, it’s amazing to have local opportunities to develop our talent and raise the level over this distance. The 5km is one of my favourite distances to race. It’s the perfect way for me to build back to peak form after injury and pregnancy. I’ve got my sights set on the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen next year, so this race is an important part of my preparation for the season ahead.”

On her love for the distance, Jacobs adds: “The 5km is such a great mix of speed and endurance - it brings out the best in both middle-distance track runners and 10km specialists.”

A fierce competitor at heart, Jacobs admits her goal is always to win. “It’s the competitor in me,” she laughs. “I’ve really missed race days and that adrenaline rush you get when you’re pushing your limits. I’m just excited to be back on the start line, breaking barriers, and taking big strides towards peak fitness again.”

Also proudly running in the colours of the Boxer Athletics Club, Cacisile Sosibo is eager not only to represent her club but also to enjoy the experience alongside other elite runners.

“The Boxer Super Run is such an exciting event - it demands athleticism, strategy, and determination,” says Sosibo. “What I love most is that it’s not only about the elites or top runners. Yes, I run for Boxer Athletics Club, but I also entered to have fun with my fellow elites. Since I usually focus on 10km and 21km races, this event will be a great opportunity to build more speed. My goal is to run between 16:00 and 16:20.”

While driven by performance, Sosibo admits she’s looking forward to the fun side of the race and won’t be putting too much pressure on herself.

“We’re excited to welcome Kyla Jacobs to the start line for her Boxer Super Run Durban debut this year,” says Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Department: Marketing at Boxer Superstores. “Kyla’s not only an exceptional athlete but also a true role model for the next generation of elites. Her story is one of resilience and inspiration. It’s not easy to be an elite athlete - and now to be an elite athlete while balancing family obligations is a true testament to both her physical and mental strength. We wish her all the best as she takes on this exciting challenge. It’s also fantastic to have Cacisile Sosibo flying the flag for Boxer Athletics Club at the Boxer Super Run in Durban, further strengthening our representation at South Africa’s most social 5km run.”
